Are you using ai to fix your toilet?

So here's the theory AI makes me more engaged in the world, not less engaged in the world. This is a video that I've wanted to record for a while and I have prevented myself from doing that so that I could give myself more time to play around in the world to see if it's true. And I found this to be true since the first really good version of chat GPT came out and it's only gotten more true as these models have gotten better and been able to do more. I think that most people don't really understand the vast applications that AI have to your day-to-day life.
I am a tinkerer. I like to mess around with things. I like to customize my world. There's a video that I've got about that that you can take a look at.
I believe that customization is the truest form of ownership. And I love to customize everything. And AI is only giving me the confidence to do this more and more and more. The examples that I can give you are vast and wide.
I have used AI to help me in my bathroom. Not like that. I had a problem with my shower and I dismantled it and then took photos of it. And then AI walked me through what I needed to do.
I've used AI to figure out all kinds of problems. And I think that people who are disengaged from these tools, I think the people who aren't paying for the premium versions of these tools are all missing out. I think that you are letting propaganda and crazy talk get in the way of a tool that is just there to make your life a little bit easier and a little bit better and push you a little bit further than you would have gotten if you didn't have the safety net of an AI going yeah yeah you're okay, you can do it. It's like having a teacher, a really positive mentor and a teacher in your pocket all the time plugged into your ears ready to tell you what to do next.
And I think that there are some problems with that of course. The problem of just believing everything the AI says, just doing everything the AI tells you to do all of these things are not what I'm talking about. If that's you then you need to get yourself in check. You need to remember that you have agency.
My grandfather used to say you should drink the drink and don't let the drink drink you. I think that applies to AI. You should use AI, but don't let AI use you. And there is a very fine nuanced line that we need to keep in check throughout all of this.
That you should be engaging with AI. It shouldn't be engaging with you. It shouldn't be telling you how to live your life and what to do, but it should be helping you to augment the things you already do. Whether it's true for you or not.
I don't particularly care, but I choose to use AI to help me get closer to the world to help me understand my environment better, to help me figure out how to garden, how to put different spices together in my meal, how to analyze different trends and traits and how to understand data that I get back from my doctor and all these different and interesting things that I then verify and vet with other sources of course. But it brings me closer to my world. It satiates my curiosity. It helps me understand things that I was never going to even be interested in understanding before because the gap to get to that knowledge is just too far before today.
So if you're choosing to ignore AI in this way, it's like choosing to ignore Google when it first came out or Wikipedia or the internet. You have to lean in and let it expand your world, not contract your views and polarize everything that you're going through and everyone you're talking to. Lean in and experience the world with your own agency, curiosity and critical thinking in place. That's how I choose to use AI.
I'm incredibly interested in how you do. So comment below. I want to know about all of the things that you have done with AI that I might not have thought about so that I can go and do the same.
