Hi and welcome to my blog! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting and do come back.
What do you think of this advert?

Visit Mail & Guardian Online now to have a look at the advert.
I am in two minds. Initially I hated the concept, but then, it’s not so bad really. It’s effective, interesting and different. Plus it can be closed at any moment if you can find the relevant button.

I’ve clicked through but I can’t see the ad, so I’ll go by your screenshot.
Personally, as a user, I hate this type of thing, it really irritates me.
As a website owner though, I have found it to be a very effective form of advertising. It generates huge traffic for our advertisers and they are willing to pay a handsome some for the exposure. On one of my sites, the slot for this ad is booked years in advance!
While this ad may look great I still don’t like it. Two reasons:
1. I hate ads that take over from what I have gone to the site to find. (I have the same view of the newsletter sign-up boxes that pop up on some sites when you open the home page - I will NEVER sign up for a newsletter that way.)
2. While this ad still looks quite interesting, we can be pretty sure that they will not all look so great.
