Facebooks Gifts Make Me Puke

Filed Under (Random Note) by Nic on 29-06-2007

Everyday I look at my FaceBook (FB) profile and I notice another annoying little gift on the right hand side of the screen. Today’s gift is an 8-bit Warrior.

I ask you, an 8-bit Warrior? Who the hell wants to blow $1 on an 8-bit Warrior?

Thing is, there are 100 000 of them available, limited time only, get yours now before they run out. 100 000 freakin’ 8-bit Warriors! WHAT A LOAD OF HOGWASH.

You people are idiots, you facebook freaks who spend $1 on a gift that someone is designing off the top of their head. You are paying for absolutely nothing, zip, nada, zero, squat.

FB is coining it through these little gifts, sometime there are 1 000 000 little gifts available on the day if its a cup-cake, a burger or something even cuter.

It makes me sick. To the stomach. I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth.

Skinstad and White Robbed

How incredible is that? Bob and Jake walk in to the Australian airport and realise that the camera, laptop and allegedly their “playbook” were stolen.

Most people would be talking about Bob being captain (KAK IDEA) or Jake selecting a second string team (You brilliant, brilliant man you). But I am more interested in them being robbed and the media hounding them upon arrival.

Anyhoot, whatever, we sent a second string team, who cares, I think it’s a shit idea to have the super 14, tri-nations and world cup in one year anyways. Go Jake.

P.S: Bye bye Mr Smit and Mr Matfield we’ll see you in the green and gold.

It’s Cold… In Fact, It’s Freezing

I love snow. I crave snow ever since I went to Vail, Colorado and went snow boarding. This snow is nothing compared to Vail’s, but heck, we are in SA!!

This is my little Red Zorba with snow covered wipers and a car at work.

Check out Justin’s post for a crazy snow pic!

Corporate Adjustment - The Cubicle

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Nic on 26-06-2007

Tagged Under :

I am working in an open-plan office and currently sitting in a cubicle with low walls and absolutely zero privacy.

I don’t mind this at all and in fact, it is quite refreshing to know that I have many minds around me to help me if I need assistance of any sort.

The leap from entrepreneur to corporate employee is a massive one. One that I don’t think I was quite prepared for. Not in the bad way that makes you want to jump out of the window, but in the good way that makes you realise that sometimes autonomous work is NOT the most productive work one can do.

I am sure now that it is admirable to want to own the world at the tender age of 23 or so, but it is often not realistic. Sometimes one needs the experience that the corporate world offers to reach a personal potential.

I think that I have loads to learn and loads more insight in to the corporate cubicle world through the eyes of an entrepreneur.

One Of Those Mornings…

…when you wake up and you’ve slept through your alarm by just enough time to warrant not eating breakfast. When you get in your car and realise your almost out of petrol. When you get to the first petrol station and it is full (now you are running late). When you get to the next petrol station and it is on a go slow. When you need to clean your windscreens, check the water and oil, fill up and there is only one gent who seems to not hear your requests for service. When the full tank seems to take an age to take…in…that…last…drop.

When you leave the petrol station and the robot stops working. When you try to get on the highway there is a big, fat, ugly BMW X-whatever pushing in to your lane after sitting for 20 minutes and waiting your turn. When you get on the highway it rolls smoothly, up until your turn off. When you take the turn off you find roadworks.

When you make the decision to go lane-hopping instead of trusting your choice of lane. When every lane you hop in to seems to slow down or miraculously contain a massive truck almost reversing down Corlette Drive.

When you get in to your parkade at work, there are no parking because you are late.

When you eventually get to work in such a tizz because you think that everyone will be waiting for you tapping their watches in disdain and there is almost no one there yet.

I love flexihours. I love mornings and I love the media industry.

Amagama Gets A Redesign

I wonder what sort of backlash Vincent and the MG team will receive for this little change?

amagamanewpage.jpg

OK, so it isn’t really a little change. There are some significant differences featured on the new Amagama homepage. For one thing, there are no recent comments appearing on the homepage and no recent blog posts. In the place of the recent blog posts there is a tag cloud that seems to be displaying all of the hot topics in the realm of Amagama.

Previous complaints from old Blogmark users about the previous version of the Amagama homepage were that the community aspect had left the platform. This is definitely apparent now with the new updates.

Amatomu, the other MG blog resource is now also featured on the site. While there are links to recent comments and the homepage does show who is online and a list of new blogs, I feel like there is a wave of Amabadmouthing coming the way of the Vincent. Sorry buddy, lets hope it pans out differently.

It seems as though Vincent has attempted to make conversion from Blogmark blog to Amagama a lot easier on the new homepage and registration seems to be simpler.

Third Time Lucky - The Flamebait podcast… eventually

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Nic on 23-06-2007

Vince and I have finally recorded the Flamebait podcast in a format that we are happy with and believe will be long-lasting.

We recorded this weeks podcast on Friday and had a good laugh and talk about some interesting things. The difficulty with a podcast is that which every blog or media production faces: Who is your target market. The Flamebait target market is, without a doubt, MG readers.

These readers are not necessarily blogsavvy so that is the sort of angle we have taken. Without further deliberation you can receive the podcast right now via RSS at http://feeds.feedburner.com/flamebait. The podcast will be up on the MG Podcast page on Monday.

The IPhone - Can It Make Calls?

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Nic on 22-06-2007

infographic-iphone.jpg

I think the IPhone is hot. So does everyone else. I have yet to read a post from any blogger talking about the basic functionality of this groundbreaking phone.

Can this phone send a text message? Can I make a call and will it be crystal clear? If it can’t do these two basic things properly then I don’t want it.

I mean that. I want to be able to do the basics incredibly easily with an almost 100% success rate before I know that I can teleport myself to planet Zookefrokenbakc and back with the IPhone.

So I ask again, has anyone made a call or sent a text message using the IPhone?

The Big Whatifs

Whatif I take this job? Whatif I don’t? Whatif he dies, whatif he lives, whatif I turn left, or right, if I drive or walk?

These have been plaguing my mind. The Whatifs. Lately the Whatifs have been significant. Life changing and future defining for me. They are scare, all of them, every single one. Whatif you don’t say goodbye and don’t ever get to? Whatif she doesn’t know you love her and you never get to tell her? Whatif then hey?

I can hear you mumbling janowhatever-likesureman, there’s always tomorrow. Well Whatif there isn’t tomorrow?

Tomorrow will come, it is a matter of how you remember yesterday that defines what today feels like.

There is some very cool stuff happening to me and to the people around me at the moment. I think things are looking up and I think that great things are ahead for some great people. Keep a look out!
